The NFL, A Week Later

A week after the *cue foreboding voice* longest work stoppage in NFL history and we can already see some trends.  Here’s a look at some things that stuck out as the league cranked itself back up for the 2011 – 2012 season. Read the rest of this entry »

What Would You Do Without Football?

The question is: what would you have done without football? Fortunately, the NFL has returned in time for the 2011 season and fans are ecstatic. Since we couldn’t dare fathom life without football when it was a possibility we can now openly discuss our back up plans or time fillers if the deal wasn’t done. Here is our list: Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

Well Dirk was able to avenge his demons and go to Miami and win a Championship.  Will we say the same for LeBron in a few years?

Chris Bosh was the butt of many jokes this season but his break down at the end of the game on the way back to the locker room showed that he at least cared.

LeBron James needs new PR people.  He doesn’t know how to deflect criticism.  This comment may haunt him for a long while: Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

We are saddened by the resignation of Jim Tressel because it means less hate jokes. We will miss them dearly.

(this is a repost for Alba)

Update: The hate still exists!

In related news, Ohio State’s QB Terrelle Pryor is under further scrutiny by the NCAA for receiving cars and other extra benefits. I bet he really wishes he declared for the draft now (although the supplemental draft is still an option). Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

This play will be heavily featured in any future Kevin Durant montages…sucks to be Brendan Haywood.

Dallas looks to be in control of the Western Conference Finals but does anyone outside of Texas have them winning it all?

Joakim Noah pulled a Kobe and yelled a gay slur at a fan but he immediately apologized after the game. Good move to a bad action. Looks like some sensitivity training is needed. Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

So now that Ohio State’s football program is under investigation (again) for selling 50 cars to athletes and their families will they FINALLY get more than a slap on the wrist from the NCAA?

Meanwhile, the hate keeps coming for Jim Tressel (and I don’t blame them). Folks in Michigan are airing their distaste.

Gary Williams retired from the University of Maryland last week.  While we’re genuinely sorry to see him go, it was time as he was not interested in playing today’s game when it came to recruiting. Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

The ratings for the NFL Draft dropped from last year.  David Stern needs to take note, if the NFL Draft loses fan interest with labor strife, the NBA would fall completely off the map.

After being drafted overall #1 by the Carolina Panthers, Cam Newton proved his country roots by saying, “it’s not going to be instant like instant grits. It’s going to be like collard greens” with regards to his impact on the team.  Oh Cam.  Something tells me the media is going to LOVE covering him.

I think the display of emotion by Von Miller and Mark Ingram at the NFL Draft was beautiful. Wouldn’t you be feeling some kind of way if you were going to be a millionaire or heard an emotional message from your father in jail? Have a heart folks.

Lockout Insurance – Is Your Team Prepared?

BaltimoreRavens.com reports that Anquan Boldin commented that the Ravens should be in good shape should there be a work stoppage due to a stall in Collective Bargaining Agreement talks between the NFL and the Player’s Association. Boldin is hopeful that an agreement will be reached but given the low turnover of coaching staff and players the Ravens have an edge. Now that sounds great and all and I think highly of my team but could we really be prepared in a matter of weeks, without OTAs (organized team activities), training camp, minicamp, etc.? That means relying on players individually prepping and staying in the best, or as close to best is possible, playing condition on their own. I would like to think that the Ravens have some of the most disciplined players in the NFL but they have a lot of resources available to them at the team’s facility that they will no longer have access to. And that’s just my team, which is full of veterans. Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

The flashy, metallic imprinted uniforms worn during the NBA All-Star game made them look like futuristic break dancers.

Justin Bieber winning the Celebrity Game MVP over Scottie Pippen making all of those three pointers was a travesty.

The coaches as hype men during the Dunk Contest was a little unnecessary. Ok, a lot unnecessary.

The Kia Optima was a great prop (you know you were checking it out) but Blake jumped over the hood so the dunk wasn’t all that impressive.

It’s too bad Javale McGee isn’t a bigger name, the two basket dunk was creative and had anyone else done it they would have won it all. Read the rest of this entry »
